Branding and editorial design for Courageous, a branded content and content partnership magazine which focuses on …. Published twice a year, it is a compendium of the best work from branded content Courageous Studios.

The Courageous magazine was developed to memorialize the films the studio created and to celebrate the branded work in a tangible way that allowed a more intimate and enriching storytelling experience. The goal was to create a coffee table piece–the oversized format, premium paper, beautiful full-bleed image spreads–that not only stands apart and elevates the brand but leaves you better informed than when you first picked it up. 

 

The format size is a oversize vertical custom, 100 pages with two types of paper silk and uncoated for textural to give luxury experience.

The visual system is base-off Courageous branding guidelines. The masthead is Courageous logotype set in the gold foil and the boat mast icon is graphic element that wraps around the front and back cover set in a clear foil-stamp. Typography features Conduit, Courageous brand typeface coupled with Parkinson Electra Pro, a serif and Seravek, a san serif typeface that vary in weight to create an identity for each section of the magazine. Grid system is on a 16 points baseline grid on 4, 6, 8, 12 columns.

The Courageous magazine contains content marketing news, proprietary research (editorial feature stories from CNN.com), photo essays, field reports from branded content shoots and editorial articles. It’s a nice way to celebrate the branded work, as well as what CNN Digital does best.
