Always Our Beloved King

A historic moment took place during my visit to Thailand in 2016. Just a few weeks earlier, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who had reigned for over 70 years, had passed away. He was one of the longest-reigning monarchs in history and was deeply loved and adored by his people. The country was in mourning for a month, with everyone wearing black to show their respect. Everywhere you looked, there were displays of affection and significant loss, from paraphernalia and t-shirts to picture frames lining the streets, pop-up shrines erected, and food and water distributed as acts of kindness. Being a part of this collective outpouring of love and gratitude for their king was a unique and unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever.
